The first time we hold our toddler in our arms, we begin worrying about her future. We worry about her first words, her first steps, her first day of pre-school, and this list goes on. We need to understand that we all want the best for our children, but that does not mean that pressuring them to learn will help speed the process. Each child learns at a different pace, and even though she may not have said mama or papa by the end of 12 months, she will get there.
That said, your toddler is always soaking up information around her – learning the alphabet, naming different colors, recognizing people. Long before your toddler manages to babble her first words, she learns to understand words and actions. And when the time comes when your baby has said her first words, chances are she has repeated what she has heard. So, why not look for learning games that lay emphasis on helping kids learn to identify letters, both lowercase and uppercase, as well as trace them. You may expect your child to recite the numbers one to ten, but the ability to truly comprehend these numbers won’t come to her as soon as you would have liked. You can help her understand the number game through easy activities by singing counting songs while doing simple tasks. Teaching your child how to identify colours is no easy feat. They are constantly adding new colours to their mental palette, but naming them is a little hard for them. There are many learning games that will help children learn the names of colours as well as develop important motor skills like color concepts, eye-hand coordination, and picture comprehension that forms the foundation for early learning success.
As fun as it is to teach your toddler how to count and identify colours, it’s slightly different when it comes to shapes and sizes. Using real-life objects to help kids understand what each shape should look like helps. There are various online educational games that consist of puzzles where they can drag particular shapes into the right holes. Once children are able to do that, it also helps them recognize and co-relate the size and shape of the object.
